The Turkey Platter: A Quick History and My Favorite Patterns

If you saw my post earlier this week on creating a happy and a vintage Thanksgiving table, you may have seen an obvious omission.  The Turkey Platter.  It is, if you ask me, the grand pooba of T-Giving.

History

I was curious about how these got started and did a little research.  According to an article I found on Nancy's Daily Dish, these bird beauties have been in production for nearly 100 years.  English potters decided to profit on the official proclamation made by Abraham Lincoln to establish Thanskgiving by creating transferware showing off the holiday's mascot.

My Favorite Patterns

Probably the most popular of them all is Johnson and Brother's "His Majesty" Pattern.  You know the one - you have seen it a million times. 

You know how I feel about Blue and White....this early Cauldon Flow Blue Turkey Platter is breathtaking! 

The deep colors on this just grab you!

Yall, I adore the subtle yellow tones on this one!

And finally, I absolutely love the black in this one. I want to buy this and put with black and white gingham napkins and a pink table cloth. How chic would that be!!!!!!
