What Is a Compote Bowl?

The easiest way to describe a compote is a vessel or bowl that is on a pedestal. They can be used for a candy dish, a centerpiece, to hold a collection. Simply put, they can be used in lieu of a standard bowl.

I can loose my mind over a good compote dish or pedestal bowl.  It is something about the height and adding the layers and textures of different materials that just takes anything to the next level.  Two of my favorite looks are on the counter tops (both kitchen and bathroom) and my table.

I really love the use of wood pedestal bowls in bathrooms, especially.  They help warm up the space and are a great place to stash extra soaps, lotions and hand towels.

In order to make your table extra special, think about incorporating compotes for your centerpiece along with floral arrangements. Some of my favorite wedding centerpieces use crystal and glass compotes with candles and greenery.

Eddie Ross is THE genius in using elevation in his displays, in my humble opinion. I love the way he uses these dishes for both the biscuits and then one for the jelly/jam. (Great, now all I want to eat are biscuits.)

Like, I mean, stop and look at this! That man can take a cheese plate to places you haven't ever seen before!

Dying. Dead.

For candles.....

What a great way to add place cards to your table.....

How do you use them in your home?
