How to Assemble the Perfect Tray for Breakfast in Bed
Have yall ever heard of the book, "The 5 Love Languages"? (It is a personal favorite). I am, shockingly, all of the love languages. (Poor hubbie, Bruce). But, if I could be so bold, I would suggest a 6th Love Language...Breakfast in Bed. Let's face it, is there anything better and more romantic than being greeted by your morning coffee immediately upon waking up?
No. There isn't.
Today, I thought we should examine how to construct the perfect vintage breakfast tray just in time for Valentines Day. So forward this on ya boo-boo's, y'all. The excuses are over.
I have given this a tremendous amount of thought and I think the perfect breakfast tray includes the following vintage items:
THE BASICS...
Vintage Tray
Let's start with the foundation of the whole event...the tray. You can go the traditional route and get one of the trays with legs but I think it is just fine for you to use a regular tray, as long as it is sturdy. I think this might also be a situation where you would want to make sure the tray has handles for easy transport from the kitchen to the bed.
Vintage Plates and Bowls
Obviously this will depend on what you are serving but having a cute vintage plate is crucial.
Coffee Cup:
Don't even come at me in the morning until I have had my coffee. This also applies to all snugly babies and cute puppies. Nothing is cute to me until I am a cup of Java down.
Napkin:
Vintage napkins hold such a special place in my heart. They are a favorite find at Thrift Stores and Flea Markets. I'd love to act like we eat at a set table every night but if we are getting take out and have already put Grayson down to bed, there is a 99% chance we are parked at TV trays in front of the TV (judge, I don't care). But, I usually throw a vintage napkin on it to, you know, make me feel like a civilized slob instead of a regular one.
Bud Vase:
Adding flowers is always an extra special touch.
BEYOND THE BASICS...
Toast Rack
Again, depending on what you are serving, using a vintage toast rack is an extra special touch. Not sure what they are? Check out this blog post to learn more.
Coffee/Sugar/Creamer Set:
When is ONE cup of coffee ever enough, yall?
Sugar Spoon:
See comment above about one cup of coffee. Sugar spoons (bonus points if you can find one with that special person's vintage monogram) are the piece de resistance! Want some tips on how to pick them out? Check out my Flatware Finds on Sugar Spoons.
(Also, it is way too hard to see but that pattern is Etruscan by Gorham...remember that my post on the 22 Most Popular Silver Patterns?)
And if you really love them...
Screw this to the door and let them sleep.
Actually I guess I should suggest "Do Not Disturb" as the 6th Love Language. It would DEFINITELY be mine.
What do you want for your special Breakfast in Bed tray? (A sleep mask, anyone?!)
