How to Add Space to Your Kitchen Using Ikea Bookshelves
Having a tableware fetish and living in a tiny rental has not mixed well for my marriage. I really meant what I said in my "About Me" on how I sneak in plates and teacups in my purse. Or tell Bruce they are "for the shop" and then they end up "in the kitchen."
Crazy how they just migrate in there, huh?
Pretty soon, we were in serious need of storage for the contraband goods. Just like the bookshelf post, once we combined our things into one home, we realized how many Billy Bookshelves we had from Ikea. Y'all, I swear, these things really are the workhorse of our house. They are inexpensive and sturdy. I can't say enough how much I love them.
I also wanted to make sure there were cabinets to be able to hide all the ugly things like the toaster and blender. Thankfully, Ikea sells attachable doors for these bookshelves as well. Here is my "Butlers Cabinet" full of my serving spoons, napkins and candles.
I did this so long ago I don't have pictures of the process but I'll give you a few quick tips if you want to create the same look in your kitchen.
Use this primer. It is the best one out there to stick to that slick "wood" that Ikea furniture is built.
Wait and assemble everything after you paint it. It is so much easier this way.
Y'all are going to laugh but my boo bought me this spray gun as part of my Valentines present one year and it is one of my favorite things ever. I used Rustoleum Paint in Hunter Green.
The handles are these from Ikea that I used this spray paint and sprayed gold.
I love these cabinets. I love the punch of green. I love the lacquered shine. I hope to have these with me forever!
